Meet the truffle dogs

Sunny and Izzie

Sunny and Izzie are settling into life in Manjimup ready for the truffle season.

Sunny, a 5 year old Kelpie X Labrador Breed was Fran’s first truffle dog and she is is well known for her overly powerful nose and ability to tell us if we dig out the right truffle. Her reward for finding a truffle is a game with her ball.

Izzie, a pretty 2 year old Beagle, is just as keen on truffle hunting as Sunny. Nicknamed Princes, when Izzie was a pup learning to truffle hunt she would show us where the truffle was located by sitting on it. So often did this happen that many truffle farmers believed Izzie smelt truffles through her bottom!

Both Sunny and Izzie have a claim to fame in that they are the first truffle dogs to have crossed the nallarbor by car!

Chilli has a massive natural hunt drive and a high endurance level which works exceptionally well when she’s out hunting for the elusive French black truffle.

During the2009 season she was out hunting truffles daily with the team looking for the black gold- truffles!
