About The Wine & Truffle Co
The Wine & Truffle Co is located at Seven Day Road in the South-West town of Manjimup on 53 hectares of picturesque, undulating land surrounded by Karri and Jarrah forests.
The Truffière (or truffle farm) was established under the expert guidance of Forestry Scientist Dr Nick Malajczuk, who is recognised as a world authority on edible fungi.
We produce Superior Perigord truffles, which are known the world over as a rare and expensive gourmet delicacy. Whilst it is true that truffles are rare, they are not as expensive as we are lead to believe. Truffles do not need to be purchased by the kilo, and you generally only require around 10grams of truffle per person per dish, making them a perfectly affordable delicacy.
Since we began cultivating black truffles in 1997, our truffle production has grown exponentially from 600 kilograms in 2008 to a predicted 2.5 tonnes by the end of the upcoming season, and we expect to be producing at a level to satisfy growing export demand.
Truffles are mainly associated with European epicurean culture and for many centuries grew wild in certain parts of Europe, particularly in France and Italy. Their rarity and scarce availability make them a valuable and expensive delicacy, especially when bought for commercial use, as they can cost between $3,000 and $4,000 a kilo.
Here in Australia, cultivating truffles is a unique and challenging experience that The Wine & Truffle Co has embraced with enthusiasm and passion. Our truffles are destined for fine dining restaurants in Australia including Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Adelaide as well as being shipped around the world.
French importers have visited The Wine & Truffle Co's Manjimup Truffière and now purchase our truffles to fill their out-of-season European demand. Currently we export truffles to over 14 countries worldwide with our premium truffles being sold to Germany, UK, Denmark, Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan, USA, Spain, Singapore and Indonesia. Truffles can be at a restaurant in the USA within 2 days of being harvested at our Manjimup truffière!
Being a producer of premium fine wines and the largest cultivator of the gourmet Superior Perigord truffle in the southern hemisphere, The Wine & Truffle Co is one of the main tourist attractions in the Manjimup region.
