The Wine & Truffle Company is delighted to announce that Sophie Zalokar has agreed to take on the role of Culinary Creator for the Truffle Affaire 2010. Sophie Zalokar is a dedicated country chef, food author and Slow Food Southern Forests Leader; who will inspire Truffle Affaire guests with the history and mystery of the black truffle. The gala Season Opening Truffle Affaire events are on Saturday 29th May and Sunday 30th May 2010 at the Wine and Truffle Company in Manjimup.

Sophie is an accomplished chef and food writer. Born and raised in the Barossa Valley in South Australia, Sophie trained as a chef with renowned cook and TV food presenter Maggie Beer at her famed restaurant, The Pheasant Farm. Sophie has featured in several of Maggie’s books and in 2002, her own book ‘PicNic - Outdoor Feasts in the Australian Landscape” was published and was short listed for the Jacob’s Creek World Food Media Awards and Vittoria Australian Food Media Awards.

In 2005 Sophie and her family moved from Fremantle to Pemberton in the Southern Forests region where they are developing a culinary tourism business. She has been a member of Slow Food since 1995, was an Australian cooks delegate to the 2008 Terra Madre in Turin, Italy and is the founding leader of the recently formed Slow Food Southern Forests convivium.

Sophie’s work as a chef, food writer / educator / consultant and produce judge is underpinned by her commitment to nurturing honest, flavorsome food created with a deep respect for the land, those who work the land, food heritage & culinary traditions.

The Truffle Affaire will be hosted by Verity James who will lead guests through a day designed to excite the senses. The unique all day gala program includes a six-course degustation truffle inspired luncheon and the opportunity to hunt for truffles in the atmospheric hazelnut grove trufferie. Truffle Hill winemaker Mark Aitken will be on hand to give guests his insight into the 2010 vintage and match the award winning Truffle Hill wines to the six-course degustation.

The Truffle Affaire celebrates the beginning of the Truffle Season - the hunters and their dogs will be in action during the day. Outstanding entertainment from Victoria Newton -  caps off the day.
